There are many reasons why the Ukrainian city of Odesa is called "wonderful". One of the reasons is that it is regarded in all the countries of the former Soviet Union as "the capital of humour". Humour in Odesa permeated everything. This city, situated on the Black Sea coast, has given the world a number of brilliant humourists, both writers and "reciters". The very language in Odesa is something special, there is hardly a phrase spoken without a pun or a joke inserted into it. Unfortunately, these puns and jokes are practically impossible to translate into a foreign language, but fortunately, there is an international language, that of cartoons. In this issue we offer our readers a selection of cartoons that have been kindly supplied by the Odesa humour magazine, Fountain.
