The Day Kyiv
Rejoiced

The Day
of Kyiv is
celebrated
each year,
at the end
of May, when
the city is in its
best vernal
appearance,
with blossoms
of innumerable
chestnuts and
lilacs filling
the air with
wonderful
fragrances.
We have
begun to feel
the true joy
of life. We've
begun to learn
how
to smile
and laugh.

Garden of Eden
on earth

Any botanical
garden is an
attempt
to recreate
the Garden of
Eden on earth.
The Central
Botanical
Garden of
the Academy
of Sciences of
Ukraine in Kyiv
appears to be
a very special
place indeed.
The garden
contains
collections of
about thirteen
thousand
species
of plants
from all the
continents.

Chaikovsky
designs coins

Roman
Chaikovsky,

sculpture
ranging

Chaikovsky's
sculpture
has been
shown
at many
exhibitions.
His designs
have been
used for
commemorative
coins struck
at the
Ukrainian
Mint.

Katya Buzhynska,
a pop star

At 19, this
singer from
Kyiv has
already
collected
an impressive
number
of prizes and
awards.
"I've learnt
many things
the hard way,"
says
Buzhinska.
"I know what's
what in this
life. And my
ambition is
to be awarded
the Grand Prix
at the
Eurovision
song contest".
