Crystal Silhouette, one-dress contest

The 4th International Festival Kyiv Fashion 2003 was held at the KyivEkspoPlaza Exhibition Centre in April, with over 150 leading Ukrainian and foreign fashion companies, fashion designers and trade marks taking part. The chief organizer was the Kyivsky Mizhnarodny Kontraktovy Yarmarok (Kyiv International Contract Fair) Association.

Among the events of the festival, the Kryshtalevy Syluet (Crystal Silhouette) contest, which was held for the third time in as many years, and organized by the Confederation of Designers and Stylists of Ukraine and by the Art College of Art Modelling and Design, proved to be a major attraction. Oleksandr Hapchuk, Oleksandr Monyak, Aina Hase, Diana Dorozhkina and other young Ukrainian designers took part in the contest. The jury, made up of prominent figures in fashion design, was headed by Oksana Fursa, president of the Confederation of Designers and Stylists of Ukraine. The 29 Spring-Summer 2003 Pret-a-porter and Avant-garde dresses shown were created especially for the contest.

In the Pret-a-porter nominations, the first place was awarded to Diana Dorozhkinas Pocahontas dress; the second place went to Yevhen Ryabinin (Ryabinin Company) for his Rose of Baghdad dress, and the third place was won by Lyudmyla Kyslenko (Lyukis Trade House) for her Back to Future dress.

In the Avant-garde nominations, the first place was awarded to Oksana Horbatyuk (Mariya Collection Company) for her Medea dress; Viktor Cherkasky with his Paris-Dakar dress was the second, followed by Aina Hase with her From the Sun dress.

The contest was no doubt a good boost to the further development of fashion design in Ukraine.
